The “Future Present” Celtic Cross Reading

I recently did a Celtic Cross reading about potential changes in my experience of an ongoing situation a year or more from now. In doing so, I realized that the normal timeline of the “cross” section didn’t make any sense. The top position of the six-card cross in my standard spread design represents the “Present,” but it didn’t seem appropriate to view it that way for a projection so far into the future. In reality the legitimate — and most certainly evolved — “Present” of the matter should be a little closer to the ultimate date of resolution; any period nearer in time would be of questionable value and reliability for predictive purposes since my current circumstances are unlikely to remain static the whole time as intervening events occur.

I decided to reconsider that position (Card #5) as showing the “first stirring” of options and opportunities to act in the the emerging situation as it is likely to appear approximately one year down the road. In that sense, the usual “Recent Past” (Card #4), “Distant Past” (Card #3) and “Situation” (Card #1) positions shown below in green become the entire history of the matter as it stands between the time of the reading and the realization of the need to take action in the “Future Present.” The second — “crossing” — card (which I treat as a “major motivator” in my CC readings) also partakes of the nature of the “Future Present,” steering it in either a challenging or opportune direction when the time comes. The “Near Future” (Card #6, renamed the “Reality Check” regarding the facts of the matter as they present themselves) I plan to treat as a cross-check and substantiation of the “Future Present” card; in other words, the “first impression” becoming fact, “for good or ill.” The three “querent’s status” cards of the “staff” section serve pretty much the same purpose as they do now, as does the “Outcome” card.

Here is a hypothetical spread design that speaks to these modifications:
