The “Bridge to Nowhere” Four-Way Relationship Spread

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Back during the Clinton Administration, Alaskan congressmen with “pork” on the menu were floating the idea of building a long bridge to the Aleutian Islands that critics derisively labeled the “Bridge to Nowhere.” (I think Bill may have been planting a different kind of “pylon” at the time.) Here is a spread that examines couples or partners engaged in or contemplating a four-way relationship. (It doesn’t have to be a sexual situation although the implications are often there). I chose the title because these scenarios are typically fraught with hidden “land-mines” that can disadvantage one partner/couple or another.

It recognizes that humans are by nature territorial beasts with a strong sense of boundaries and a reluctance to back down. It doesn’t focus solely on what partners might “feel” for one another but instead goes after the outer and inner “balance-of-power” dynamic in the form of personal agendas expressing motives and intentions. One of these could very well be a mutual bond of love (or at least lust), but multi-party relationships usually aren’t as simple as “If you show me yours, I’ll show you mine.” As the saying goes, “Everyone has an agenda.”

Rather than randomly pulling the cards from the deck, you can use the “quintessence” for the four “Persona” cards as the “Outer Dynamic” card and the “quintessence” for the four “Agenda” cards as the “Inner Dynamic” card. See my posts elsewhere in this blog for quintessence calculation guidance.
