The “Blame Game” Spread

The idea of assigning accountability (or more bluntly, “blame”) for challenges encountered in a situation being addressed in a tarot reading continues to fascinate me. Not that I think we need to do it, or that it’s even productive, just that it’s often on a sitter’s mind when the matter at hand is particularly elusive and difficult to resolve. Here is a simple spread that I think could be useful as a follow-up to an original reading that may have raised questions of culpability for the circumstances confronting the querent (especially if the individual is in denial about personal “ownership” of the mess). In that case it would be appropriate to use the “outcome” card or other “problem scenario” card from the earlier reading as the “Situation” card in this spread. I realize that this focus on blame contradicts the general “feel-good” approach of many tarot readers who want to empower the client without delving into negative assumptions, but establishing responsibility is often the first step in finding a way through the maze of claims and counterclaims that typically attend a conflict situation.
