“Stop Cards” and Interrupted Paths: A Situational Spread

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Here is a sophisticated spread that borrows ideas from palmistry and also from the game-play provisions of Lenormand’s ancestor, the Game of Hope. It can be used with either Lenormand or tarot, and potentially with any cartomantic method for which well-defined “stop cards” can be identified. It is best to keep their number small in any deck to avoid too many “broken” readings.

By giving these so-called “stop cards” a unique role, my objective here is to narrow and shape the focus of any reading in which only certain modes of response (action, feeling, thought, sensation and spirit) are critical to the querent’s success in the matter. In practice, it will be possible to wind up with just one fully-populated column and therefore have only a single three-card set to read. (At worst, the deal could deliver three “stop cards” in the Way of Action column, indicating that no good will come of continuing the reading.)

This is not intended as a general life-reading spread (although it could wind up as one with all 15 cards in play) but as a way to bear down on specific approaches to a situation. Reversals may be used with this spread.
