Harmony’s Fate: A “World of Hurt” Missing Person Reading

Author’s Note: Breaking my rule again by posting twice today, but I wanted to get this off my plate because I have a growing backlog of more complex essays to publish beginning tomorrow. The police are moving briskly on this case but haven’t come up with anything new yet despite poking around a home with a corpse-sniffing dog and digging holes in the back-yard.

This is the third and last of my readings on the missing-person case of 7-year-old Harmony Montgomery of Manchester, NH. This time I’m using my “World of Hurt” missing-person spread, which assumes that the subject of the reading is under some kind of duress. The method involves seeing which of five positions the first instance of a nominal significator card of the correct rank occupies when pulled randomly from a shuffled deck. In the present case of a young female child, that would be any one of the Pages/Princesses.

The Page of Swords was the first significator card to appear, and it landed in the top row of the spread on the second round of the draw, with one card beneath it. This position is titled “Escaping Something: An intentional absence (Ran away or is in hiding).” Since a 5-year-old child (at the time of her disappearance) is highly unlikely to have had the means or the motivation to run away in the “classical” sense, it must be assumed that an adult relocated and hid her in some fashion. As it happens, the King of Pentacles sits under the Page, representing a “likely suspect.” I would be looking for a dark-haired, taciturn, possibly brawny mature man over 45.

The card in the second position of that row is intended to show whether the subject was still alive at the time of the reading. The 6 of Cups is one of the “Yes-leaning” cards and is in general very positive, so I would read it as a definite “Yes.” The image seems to echo the assumption from the first reading that she is sequestered somewhere with other children.

As to when she might be found, a little discretion is needed in reading the 5 of Pentacles. Traditionally, the suit of Pentacles (elemental Earth) relates to “years,” and the Five would make it “five years from the date of the reading.” This is one of those cases that doesn’t pass the “giggle test” since all other signs point to a more timely recovery. In these situations, I feel justified in shifting the scale down one notch and turning “years” into “months,” making the target date sometime in May, or maybe a bit later to acknowledge the customary tardiness of Earth. As far as the circumstances of her existence up to that time, I would surmise from the image that she will be found “on the poor side of town,” and that she will be living in impoverished conditions up to that point. I would not expect her to be found in very good physical shape. The assumption here is that a good deal of investigate “legwork” will go into finding her (the detectives may not wind up crippled and destitute due to their exertion, but they could certainly wear out some shoe-leather).
