Harmony’s End: A Lenormand Perspective
AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is a grim subject that may distress some readers. I have a number of Lenormand and tarot essays stacking up in the queue but I wanted to get this one out while the topic is still current.
As a follow-up to my recent post on the use of the Lenormand oracle for locating lost items or missing people, I decided to apply my thinking to the Harmony Montgomery case, which at this point has become a search for her remains. The current legal status (as publicly stated in the charges filed against him) is that her father murdered her, carted her around in a clothing bag and then a large cooler for a few months to various temporary residences while she slowly decayed, then dismembered and disposed of her somewhere unknown. In this reading I’m seeking insights on that location.
For this effort, I chose the Child as the central “focus” card to represent Harmony, who was five years old at the time of her disappearance. My normal practice would be to pull four more cards to form a “cross” pattern surrounding the Significator, but doing that gave me an inconclusive result so I decided to draw five cards instead with one “covering” the Child card, after which the reading snapped into place.
The Birds at the beginning suggests all of the “twitter” that has been going on around the case, with at least two dedicated Facebook pages that I’m aware of and several more national “missing person” sites that have taken an interest. They have kept the case in the public eye. But the Birds as “short-distance travel” might also indicate that he didn’t take her far away from his “home base” at the time of the event (Birds mirroring Whip) or thereafter (which is my personal opinion as shown by other tarot and horary astrology readings I’ve done on this case).
The Clover covering the Significator, which I’m going to read as part of the vertical axis, is usually interpreted as “a small amount of good luck,” but its more basic meaning is “something small.” (Child + Clover reinforces this idea.) Since her remains have been described by a collaborator as desiccated or shrunken over time, I’m going with “reduced in size.”
The Whip usually signifies some kind of deleterious, repetitive action, and the other adult in the car at the time of Harmony’s demise has testified that the girl was allegedly struck repeatedly on the head by her father. This symbolism seems to square perfectly with that statement.
The Coffin above needs no detailed analysis, since it graphically depicts the fact that the Whip brought an end to Harmony’s life, and that she was basically “kept in a box” for a few months thereafter.
The Clover has already been explained as showing her subsequent condition. Most of these cards provide what Rana George calls “validation” of the legitimacy of the reading, but the answer I’m after comes down to the last card and the narrative wrap-up.
The Snake at the bottom describes a devious resting place that was chosen for its inconspicuous or inaccessible nature. There are many opinions on this: one that her remains were sunken in a river in eastern Massachusetts, another that they were dismembered and scattered around, probably winding up in a landfill. So much time has passed that the location is unlikely to be found unless a confession reveals it.
As far as the direction to her disposal site, the consensus is that it is probably to the East or Southeast of Manchester, NH because her father — who was living there — rented a vehicle and drove it to Boston around the time of disposal cited by the cooperating witness. However, he may have been merely “planting false flags;” most of the cards in this reading (other than the Coffin and the Clover) incline toward the right, which in my personal system means “West;” so I would say that searchers may have been looking in the wrong direction. From a “disappearance” standpoint, the Snake implies “on or near the ground and cleverly concealed.” In this version it is two-headed, which could mean “more than one location.”
