An Accident That Never Happened
AUTHOR’S NOTE: The fascinating thing about this reading is the direct validation I received early in the period regarding its chances for occurring as predicted. As of mid-April, the prediction is over eight months old and nothing drastic has ever happened, but it still makes for an interesting case study. Notably, I did experience some carelessness in my usually-precise driving habits that speaks to the latent risks identified in the cards, although it seems that “the Sun is still shining” on me).
Original Reading:
In the last few months I’ve had a handful of close calls while driving (going to Boston by car several times — a two-hour trip in heavy traffic each way — didn’t help matters), and I’m wondering whether there is a possible motor-vehicle mishap in my near future. (But of course I don’t want to create a “self-fulfilling prophecy.”)
I decided to do a Lenormand reading to look at my prospects for safe travel over the next few months. The question was “What will be the outlook for my local and regional movement over this period?” I chose the four-card “cross” for this with a central focus card; I intentionally picked the Birds for the middle card due to its alternate meaning of “short-distance travel” coupled with its mild stress-related implications (each outing will typically be of short duration in moderate traffic). However, I’ve found lately that placing a randomly-pulled “covering” card over the previously-selected focus card as part of a five-card draw gives me more precise results, so I did that here. This lets me “have it both ways” with the main thrust of the reading.
Child + Birds + Sun suggests that trying new routes of travel might be tempting and perhaps fortunate, but adding Tower to the picture advises that sticking with my well-established itinerary will be the most beneficial approach to take if I want to stay safe.
Whip + Birds + Book implies that I need to studiously (Book) avoid the upsets (Birds) of road-rage (Whip).
Whip + Tower + Book could mean that — once again — staying with my well-worn travel patterns will be advisable if I want to avoid being “blind-sided.” A friend has noted that the Bird + Tower combination suggests “Google Maps,” which I could see as Tower representing the established routes and the Birds as the inquiry that seeks awareness of the current travel status in my area.
Another interesting thought on the Book is that, in the Game of Hope, landing on it sends the player back six spaces to the Garden; the advice here would most likely be that if I had decent public transportation (I don’t) I should probably use it.
Further Analysis:
A few weeks after performing this reading I nearly collided with a police cruiser that was answering an emergency call. I was passing through an intersection on a green traffic light, making a left turn when the cruiser entered from the right, lights flashing and siren wailing, neither of which I noticed because I was focused on the turn and had the windows up. (In our town, the police have the ability to control the traffic signals to make sure they have a clear path, but this officer obviously didn’t do so.) I’m thinking this was a cautionary “shot across the bow” for future local travel, particularly since the Tower can signify “officialdom.” Subsequent “close calls” at intersections — although much less dramatic — have substantiated this warning.
Note that as I gain experience with the “cross” array, the horizontal line is shaping up as the primary emphasis in a reading and the vertical axis provides an alternate viewpoint with useful commentary.
