A Domino-and-Cards Example Reading: House Sale

To test this spread I chose a real-life situation in which acquaintances have just started the process of trying to sell their current house and move to a bigger one. The deck here is the RWS Centennial Edition in a Tin (copyright U.S. Games, Stamford, CT, used by permission) that I shuffled to introduce random reversals, and the dominoes are from a Front Porch Classics set. The technique seemed to work perfectly.

I would generally see all of these cards as favorable for any kind of transaction but the reversals make things a bit stickier. The 4 of Pentacles rx in the “Best Case” position suggests that the most interested potential buyer has the money but won’t want to immediately pony up the asking price (the image screams “house flipper” to me, a person who hopes to buy it at a steal, make minimal improvements and unload it for a big profit); the Empress rx in the “Middle-of-the-Road” spot makes me think the seller will balk at this and will have a strong enough position to hold out; and the 2 of Cups rx in the “Worst Case” scenario implies that neither will be happy with the situation but the card is agreeable and cooperative enough that they could ultimately see eye-to-eye after some back-and-forth (a characteristic of all the Twos). In short, this look like a classic “action/reaction/resolution” or “offer/counter-offer/agreement” situation (with complications).

On the other hand, it could mean that both participants will be inclined to walk away after the first round of negotiations. However, the cards are generally benign so I don’t see it getting too heated, and they may come back for Round Two. Of all these cards, the Empress (seller) seems to be holding the upper hand. Here is the progression of the three domino draws showing how it is intended to work.
